  The breech end of a revolver's cylinder

Revolver - A firearm (normally a handgun) with a multiple-chambered cylinder which rotates incrementally to bring each successive loaded chamber into battery.

In the 19th century, Colt manufactured a succession of revolving rifles---which were not successful, largely due to the unpleasantness of the escaping gasses so near to the shooter's face.
