Mauser Action Lengths

The Mauser 98 action was available, basically, in three action lengths, as measured from the front of the front receiver ring to rear of the top tang:    Kurz:  8 ¼”,      Standard:  8 ¾”,     Magnum:  9 ¼”

 

Kurz:

Mauser, factory, Kurz-actioned sporting rifles were available in three chamberings:  .250-3000 Savage, 6.5x54K Mauser (not 6.5x54 M/S) and 8x51K Mauser. For custom rifles, they are suitable for shorter cartridges as .308, not requiring a long bolt throw.   8 1/4 inches long.

 

Standard:

For custom rifles, this length is suitable for medium-length cartridges such as .30'06.    8 3/4 inches long.

 

Magnum:

For custom rifles, this action length is suitable for longer cartridges such as .375 H&H and .416 Rigby. In fact, for reliable feeding, this action length ought to be used.    9 1/4 inches long.
