LeMat, Paris Confederate Second Model Percussion Double-Barrel Revolver: .42 calibre and 16 gauge.
LeMat revolvers were used notably by Confederate officers during the Civil War. With his back against the wall, all he had to do was flip the hinged teat at the tip of the hammer nose downward (as in the above photo) to engage the central 16 gauge "sawed-off" shotgun (see photo below).
6 5/8" full-octagon nine-shot .42 calibre rifled barrel hand-engraved "Syst Le Mat Bte s - g - d - g Paris" with narrow dovetailed front sight, over central 5" 16ga single shot smoothbore barrel. */LM on right side of barrel. B on end of 9-shot cylinder. X on left side of hammer. Long, checkered paddle-spur hammer. Matching serial number 1846 on frame, barrel, cylinder, takedown knob, loading rod and its ramrod within. Perfected button-latch, pull-out knob takedown rod. Left-side loading lever. Center-mounted hammer-nose lever. Welded, ringless lanyard hole. Oval, spurless triggerguard. Checkered walnut grips. Mfd 1863. 90%blue beginning to turn brown. Excellent bores. Mechanically crisp.
