Tanegashima

Tanegashima - A Japanese matchlock firearm with a very short buttstock, adopted from Portugese technology introduced there in the 1540s, used by the Samurai class with disdain, gradual abandonment, and no technological advancement until Admiral Dewey's arrival in Tokyo in 1853.
