Griffin & Howe Custom Magnum Mauser Squarebridge .375 H&H Magnum
Description: 24 1/2" barrel with full-band hooded front sight and swivel bases, integral quarter rib with 1 standing and 2 folding express sights regulated for 100, 200 and 300 yards. Figured walnut stock with horn forend tip, recoil crossbolt, classic wrap-around point-pattern checkering with mullered borders, vacant silver oval, inletted Super-Grade rear swivel base and old leather-faced recoil pad. Mauser magnum squarebridge action, never drilled or tapped and with all matching numbers, original wing safety with SAFE and READY inlaid in gold, hinged straddle floorplate with release inside triggerguard, jeweled bolt and follower, matted squarebridge and quarter rib and checkered trigger. Profusely deep-chisel engraved, and signed by Josef Fugger: oakleaves and acorns covering approximately half the barrel, two leopard on forward floorplate hinge, bear, deer and nine wolves on floorplate, lion on triggerguard, bison on left side of front receiver ring, three more on right, lioness on bolt handle, scroll on both swivel bases. Super Grade swivels. Pull: 13 1/2". Weight: 8lbs, 13oz. Retaining 99% blue. Excellent bore. Appears unfired.
Provenance: Built in 1936. Left by William C. Naneen of Smethport, Pennsylvania for sale at Abercrombie & Fitch on March 1, 1971. Purchased April 9, 1971 by Robert E. Peterson of Los Angeles, CA, of Peterson Publishing. Purchased from his estate by Hallowell & Co on January 17, 2013.
